Stabat Mater: Meditations for the Stations of the Cross
The historical event (John 19, 25) is narrated in the first, second and fourth stanzas. The remaining stanzas are made up of reflections, affections, petitions, and resolutions arising from the contemplation of Our Lord's bitter sufferings and death.
The hymn "Stabat Mater" is ascribed to Jacopone da Todi, O.F.M. (d.1306). METER: Trochaic dimeter. The english translation of the Latin text is by Father Caswall and is perhaps the most extensively used. Composer: Claudio Casciolini (1697 - 1760).

In Avignon, an exhibit called "I believe in miracles" is being exposed and it includes a picture of a crucifix immersed in urine. Posters of this blasphemous image, called "Piss Christ", are exposed publicly in the streets of the city.
The Ministry of Culture of the Sarkozy government, the City Council and the Regional Council are currently supporting this exhibition with funds. The group LVMH (Dior, Guerlain, Moet, Hennessy, etc.), directed by Bernard Arnauld, is co-financing this "Piss Christ" and has put its logo on the poster, while this same group LVMH is defined on its website as "the Ambassador of the Western lifestyle in its most refined products"! (Note: We understand why the company Hermès recently battled not to be swallowed up in this group.) Finally, some secondary sponsors (not present on the posters) are involved in this blasphemy as SNCF [the national railway company] or the Cartier Foundation.
In the USA and in Australia, this 1987 blasphemous photo was banned.
The Sarkozy government, the UMP City Council, the PS General Council and LVMH, are quietly promoting it in Avignon, this former city of the popes. The work is installed in one of the finest mansions in the city, transforming it into a sort of temple of blasphemy.
In front of these unacceptable facts, we demand of the authorities and officers involved the following immediate steps:
1 - To remove the blasphemous picture from the exhibit and ban any public display in France, because of its provocative and discriminatory character against Christians.
2 - To remove and destroy all communication media using this photo (posters, commemorative markers, brochures etc...).
3 - To stop all public and private funding for this exhibit (which will be one million Euros in the next ten years, a large part subsidized by the taxpayer).
We expect the realization of these three measures without any possible negotiations before Easter.

Explosion in Minsk subway station.
Toll in Belarus subway blast: 12 dead, 200 injured
By YURAS KARMANAU, Associated Press
MINSK, Belarus – The toll in the Belarus subway bombing rose to 12 dead and more than 200 wounded Tuesday and authorities said several people have been detained in what they are calling a terrorist attack.
The opposition, meanwhile, voiced fears that authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko would use the attack to launch an increased crackdown on dissent.
Belarus' domestic security agency, which still goes under its Soviet-era name KGB, said it had identified the likely perpetrator of Monday's explosion at a busy downtown subway station and was searching for him. It didn't elaborate.
Interior Minister Anatoly Kuleshov said the bomb apparently was radio-controlled and police had created composite pictures of two male suspects using testimony from witnesses. His office said the bomb, which had placed under a bench at the Oktyabrskaya station, exploded as people were coming off trains during Monday's evening rush hour.
Deputy prosecutor-general Andrei Shved said several people have been detained in the investigation of the blast, but gave no details. It was not clear if those people were regarded as suspects.
The Oktyabrskaya station is within 100 meters (yards) of the presidential administration building and the Palace of the Republic, a concert hall often used for government ceremonies.
There was no claim of responsibility for the blast and police did not identify any possible perpetrators. Lukashenko told officials that "foreign forces" could be behind the explosion, but didn't elaborate. More:
The rest of this article has nothing to do with the terrorist explosion.
Let us pray for the victims.

Little Maria

Lured by the passions of his day and nurturing the dark side of his soul with impious reading and thoughts, Alessandro Serenelli had been a thorn in lovely Maria's side. He propositioned her on several occasions and harassed her with impure suggestions. On July 5, 1902, he would be denied no longer. As she once again rebuffed his sexual advance, shouting, "No! It is a sin! God does not want it!", Alexander lunged to the deed, stabbing Maria 14 times. Doctors in Nettuno tried to save Maria's life to no avail. After 20 painful hours of suffering during which she forgave and prayed for Alessandro, Maria entered Heaven fortified with the Last Sacraments. Her last earthly gaze rested upon a picture of the Blessed Mother. It was July 6, 1902.

Almost fifty years later on June 24, 1950, Pope Pius XII stood on the steps of St. Peter's in Rome and pronounced Maria Goretti a Saint and Martyr of the Universal Church to half a million people. He proposed her as the Patroness of Modern Youth and set July 6th as her feast Day. Her mother, and her murderer, attended the canonization ceremony together. This was the triumph of the little girl who loved God and hated sin. Maria Goretti had led a very ordinary life. But in spite of her simplicity, her great faith and love for God made her truly extraordinary.
Many recorded miracles, both spiritual and physical, have been worked through St. Maria Goretti's intercession. Worldwide, there are many places of devotion to St. Maria Goretti, such as the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Graces and St. Maria Goretti in Nettuno, Italy, pictured here.

Testimony of Alessandro Serenelli (May 5, 1961)
Today is the Feast of Saint Maria Goretti. She is a martyr of purity. She was killed by Alessandro Serenelli in 1902. Alessandro was eventually converted through the intercession of St. Maria. Below is the testimony of Alessandro.
"I'm nearly 80 years old. I'm about to depart.
"Looking back at my past, I can see that in my early youth, I chose a bad path which led me to ruin myself.
"My behavior was influenced by print, mass-media and bad examples which are followed by the majority of young people without even thinking. And I did the same. I was not worried.
"There were a lot of generous and devoted people who surrounded me, but I paid no attention to them because a violent force blinded me and pushed me toward a wrong way of life.
"When I was 20 years-old, I committed a crime of passion. Now, that memory represents something horrible for me. Maria Goretti, now a Saint, was my good Angel, sent to me through Providence to guide and save me. I still have impressed upon my heart her words of rebuke and of pardon. She prayed for me, she interceded for her murderer. Thirty years of prison followed.
"If I had been of age, I would have spent all my life in prison. I accepted to be condemned because it was my own fault.
"Little Maria was really my light, my protectress; with her help, I behaved well during the 27 years of prison and tried to live honestly when I was again accepted among the members of society. The Brothers of St. Francis, Capuchins from Marche, welcomed me with angelic charity into their monastery as a brother, not as a servant. I've been living with their community for 24 years, and now I am serenely waiting to witness the vision of God, to hug my loved ones again, and to be next to my Guardian Angel and her dear mother, Assunta.
"I hope this letter that I wrote can teach others the happy lesson of avoiding evil and of always following the right path, like little children. I feel that religion with its precepts is not something we can live without, but rather it is the real comfort, the real strength in life and the only safe way in every circumstance, even the most painful ones of life."
