A look at same sex unions part 1

Dear Rev. Know it all,

I don’t mean to be inflammatory. I am an active and fairly traditional Catholic. My question is absolutely sincere. I have a dear friend, a woman, who is in a same-sex relationship of twenty years duration. She was raised as a Catholic, but is estranged from the Church and very sad because the Church won’t accept her and her life partner. She told me that she won’t even to talk to Christians because she is afraid that they will tell her she is going to hell and somewhere deep inside she is terrified that maybe they are right. What is wrong with gay marriage and why won’t the Church allow it?

Ann M. Pathic

Dear Ann,

Let me begin by answering a question that you didn’t quite ask. Your friend has doubtless been assaulted by the devout who quote St Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians (6:9,10):

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.”
That sounds pretty definitive, doesn’t it? It sounds like St. Paul says that gay people will not go to heaven. Where do you read that in the text? Heaven isn’t mentioned.

“Well,” you might say, “the kingdom of God and heaven are the same thing, aren’t they?”

Isn't the Kingdom of God "Heaven"? Actually the Kingdom of God is inside us.. our spiritual selves. Not a place, Hell is on Earth though, a place where we go to learn to be honest, kind, compassionate. And we must return here "Reincarnation is being "Born Again" is it not? Being Gay is not an abomination.

So much in such a small space. The Kingdom of God is pretty much everywhere that God is, inside us, in Heaven on earth.

Hell is not earth. Scripture tells us that it is a place, Jesus mentioned hell some 70 times. (70 being the number of time one forgived a transgressor, Christ tells us 70 times 7). Hell on the other is any place where God is not. That is why satan and god do not coexist.

There is no thing such as reincarnation. Death, Judgement Heaven or Hell.

"Reincarnation is being "Born Again" do not get caught up in changing the meanings of words. It should be reanimation, a refusing of the soul.

Let me make this clear, I do not say that being homosexual is a sin. It is a cross. We are all called by God to carry our Cross with him. We are all called to remain celebate with in our station. However submission to the acts committed by homosexuals are a sin. Just as much as submisson for a heterosexual is.

I have an example of heroic fortitude, Andy Warhol.
