August 10, 1792

This is a dark day in the memory of the world. Overshadowed perhaps only by the Crucifixion of our Savior on Calvary.

Elena Maria Vidal has an article on her blog about this darkest of all days.

"August 10, 1792 , the Feast of St. Laurence the Martyr, saw the fall of the French monarchy, the massacre of the Swiss Guards and the beginning of the Reign of Terror. Madame Royale gave a detailed account in her Memoirs of the royal family's flight from the Tuileries to the National Assembly, of the long, agonizing hours trapped in the stenographer's box, and the imprisonment in the Temple prison."

A narritive (which is quite complete) of MARIE-THÉRÈSE de France,
Duchesse d'Angouleme
can be found here.

Vive Le Roi.

Death of Cardinal Lustiger

PARIS - Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger, a Jew who converted to Catholicism and rose through church hierarchy to become one of the most influential Roman Catholic figures in France, died Sunday, the Paris archbishop's office said. He was 80.

Lustiger - whose Polish immigrant mother died in the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz - was archbishop of Paris for 24 years before stepping down in 2005 at the age of 78. He died in a hospice in Paris, the archbishop's office said.

A cause of death was not immediately provided, but Lustiger had said in April that he was being treated for a "grave illness."

For years, Lustiger was the public face of the church in mainly Roman Catholic France, speaking out on critical issues and serving as a voice of calm in tumultuous times. He appeared to have perfectly synthesized his Jewish heritage with his chosen faith.

"Christianity is the fruit of Judaism," he once said.

"For me, it was never for an instant a question of denying my Jewish identity. On the contrary," he said in "Le Choix de Dieu" (The Choice of God), conversations published in 1987.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who spoke to reporters during a vacation in New England, said the country had "lost a great figure of spiritual, moral, intellectual and naturally religious life."

Archbishop of Paris Andre Vingt-Trois said Lustiger's "reflections, and his personal history, led him to play an important role in the evolution of relations between Jews and Christians."

A confidante of the late Pope John Paul II, Lustiger represented the pontiff at January 2005 commemorations of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, where his mother died.

"I don't want to return because it is a place of death and destruction," said Lustiger, who had previously visited the camp in 1983. "If I am going, it is because the pope asked me."

Lustiger kept largely silent on the tragedy of his mother Gisele. But during France's National Day of Remembrance to commemorate the deportation and death of French Jews during World War II, he took part in the reading of names in 1999 and came to his mother's.

"Gisele Lustiger," he intoned, then added, "ma maman" (my mama), before continuing, Catholic World News reported.

"The strength of evil can only be answered with an even greater strength of love," Lustiger said at an August 2005 Mass in Lodz, Poland, in memory of the more than 200,000 Jews deported from there to Nazi death camps.

On May 31, a wheelchair-bound Lustiger made an emotionally charged appearance at the Academie Francaise to say goodbye to his fellow "immortals," as the 40 members of the prestigious academy are known. The author of numerous books, Lustiger was made a member of the Academie Francaise in 1995.

Despite his diminished physical appearance, "we felt his fervor," fellow member Jean-Marie Rouart said later.

Born Aaron Lustiger on Sept. 17, 1926, in Paris to Polish immigrant parents who ran a hosiery shop, he was sent to the town of Orleans, 80 miles south of the capital, to take refuge from the occupying Nazis. There, Lustiger, who was not a practicing Jew, converted to Catholicism in 1940 at the age of 14, taking the name Jean-Marie.

Two years later, his mother was deported to Auschwitz.

Lustiger was ordained a priest in April 17, 1954, in Paris, after earning degrees in philosophy and theology from the Catholic Institute's Carmes Seminary. For 15 years, he served as chaplain to students at the Sorbonne University.

Lustiger was appointed pastor of the Sainte Jeanne de Chantal parish, holding the post for 10 years until 1979.

Named bishop of Orleans in 1979, Lustiger was named archbishop of Paris in 1981. Two years later, in 1983, Pope John-Paul II made him a cardinal.

A funeral Mass for Lustiger was to be held Friday at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, the Paris archbishop's office said.

Bombing Of Nagasaki, August 9,1945

This article has a different slant on the bombing of Japan in 1945. Gary Kohls may have had a different view were he a Marine on Okinawa in August of 1945.

62 years ago, on August 9th, 1945, the second of the only two atomic bombs (a plutonium bomb) ever used as instruments of aggressive war (against essentially defenseless civilian populations) was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, by an all-Christian bomb crew. The well-trained American soldiers were only "doing their job," and they did it efficiently.

It had been only 3 days since the first bomb, a uranium bomb, had decimated Hiroshima on August 6, with chaos and confusion in Tokyo, where the fascist military government and the Emperor had been searching for months for a way to an honorable end of the war which had exhausted the Japanese to virtually moribund status. (The only obstacle to surrender had been the Truman administration’s insistence on unconditional surrender, which meant that the Emperor Hirohito, whom the Japanese regarded as a deity, would be removed from his figurehead position in Japan – an intolerable demand for the Japanese.

The Russian army was advancing across Manchuria with the stated aim of entering the war against Japan on August 8, so there was an extra incentive to end the war quickly: the US military command did not want to divide any spoils or share power after Japan sued for peace.

The US bomber command had spared Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Kokura from the conventional bombing that had burned to the ground 60+ other major Japanese cities during the first half of 1945. One of the reasons for targeting relatively undamaged cities with these new weapons of mass destruction was scientific: to see what would happen to intact buildings – and their living inhabitants – when atomic weapons were exploded overhead.

Early in the morning of August 9, 1945, a B-29 Superfortress called Bock’s Car, took off from Tinian Island, with the prayers and blessings of its Lutheran and Catholic chaplains, and headed for Kokura, the primary target. (Its bomb was code-named "Fat Man," after Winston Churchill.)

The only field test of a nuclear weapon, blasphemously named "Trinity," had occurred just three weeks earlier, on July 16, 1945 at Alamogordo, New Mexico. The molten lavarock that resulted, still found at the site today, is called trinitite.

Saint Teresa Bendicta of the Cross

Elena Maria Vidal has an article about Edith Stien, known in religion as Sr Teresa Benedicta at Tea at Trianon

On October 11, 1998, Pope John Paul II canonized St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, a Discalced Carmelite nun known in the world as Dr. Edith Stein. Edith Stein was born to a German Jewish family on October 12, 1891, the Day of Atonement on the Hebrew calendar. She grew up to become a brilliant philosopher and university professor, as well as a feminist. Her purely secular lifestyle eventually brought her to a state of melancholy. She began to search for a deeper meaning of life...

You can see her memorial here.

Prophecy on the Rise of the Great Monarch

I have posted some of the prophecy concerning the Great Monarch here so that I will never lose it.

Prophecy on the Rise of the Great Monarch

Rudolph Gekner, 17th Century: "His sword will be moved by Divine power..."

Monk Adso (10th Century): "Some of our teachers say that a King of the Franks will possess the entire Roman Empire. He will be the greatest and last of all Monarchs. After having wisely governed his kingdom, he will go into Jerusalem and will lay his sceptre and his crown upon the Mount of Olives. Immediately afterwards, Antichrist will come."

David Poreaus (17th Century): "The Great Monarch will be of French descent, large forehead, large dark eyes, light brown wavy hair, and an eagle nose. He will crush the enemies of the Pope and will conquer the East."

St. Francis of Paola (15th Century) "By the grace of the Almighty, the great Monarch will annihilate heretics and unbelievers. He will have a great army, and angels will fight at his side. He will be like the sun among the stars. His influence will spread over the whole earth. All in all, there will be on earth twelve Kings, one Emperor, one Pope, and a few Princes. They will all lead holy lives."

St. Augustine, 5th Century):" A Frankish King will one day rule over the entire Roman Empire."

Old Saxon prophecy: "He will come from the Fleur-de-Lis..."

St. Cataldus, 5th Century: "... a King of the House of Lilies..."

St. Caesar, 5th Century: "He shall recover the Crown of the Lilies....."

St. Hildegarde, German Abbess, 12th Century: "The White Flower again takes possession of the Throne of France."

Bishop Ageda, 12th Century: "He shall inherit the Crown of the Fleur-de-Lis"

Busto (15th Century): "The angelic Pope shall place an imperial crown on his head."

Remy (5th Century): "He shall reign over the entire ancient Roman Empire."

Aystinger: " ... by whom the ancient glory of the Empire shall be restored. He shall be Emperor of Europe."

St. Francis de Paola (15th Century): "(He and the Holy Pontiff) shall obtain dominion over the whole world.

Holzhauser: "He will restore everything."

St. Hildegarde:"Peace will return when the Lily ascends the Throne again. The land will be very productive."

St. Bridget: "And the earth shall enjoy peace and prosperity."

St. John-Mary Vianney, Cur‚ of Ars (19th Century): "This shall re-establish a peace and prosperity without precedent."

Here are some prophecies worth mentioning of the Great Monarch, because of their similarity and statements that he will walk with a limp....

(Nostradamus, 16th Century): "... Prince's foot impeded ... "

(Old German prophecy): "He will be lame afoot ... "

(Anne-Catherine Emmerich, 19th Century): "God touched the sinew of his hip. He was in great pain and from that day on, he walked with a limp ... "

(Peasant Jasper, Germany): "This Prince shall mount his horse on the right-hand side, because he limps from one foot .... "

Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich, July 12, 1820: "I had a vision of the holy Emperor Henry. I saw him at night kneeling alone at the foot of the main altar in a great and beautiful church . . . and I saw the Blessed Virgin coming down all alone. She laid on the altar a red cloth covered with white linen. She placed a book inlaid with precious stones. She lit the candles and the perpetual lamp . . . Then came down the Saviour Himself clad in priestly vestiments. He was carrying the chalice and the veil. Two Angels were serving Him and two more were following . . . His chasuble was a full and heavy mantle in which red and white could be seen in transparency, and gleaming with jewels . . . Although there was no altar bell, the cruets were there. The wine was red as blood, and thgere was also some water. The Mass was short. The Gospel of St. John was not read at the end. When the Mass has ended, Mary came up to Henry (the Emperor), and she extended her right hand towards him, saying that it was in recognition of his purity. Then, she urged him not to falter. Thereupon I saw an angel, and he touched the sinew of his hip, like Jacob. He (Henry) was in great pain, and from that day on, he walked with a limp . . . "

The death of the Great Monarch...

Cataldu: "He will at length lay down his Crown in Jerusalem."

Bl. R. Maurus (9th Century): "He will go to Jerusalem, and lay down his Sceptre and Crown on Mount Olive. Thus shall come the end of the Christian Roman Empire."

Monk Adso (10th Century): "He will finally go to Jerusalem and lay down his Sceptre and Crown upon the Mount of Olives. Immediately afterwards, Antichrist will come."

St. Augustine (5th Century): "He shall give up the ghost at Jerusalem on the Mount of Olives."

St. Remy (5/6th Century): "At the end of his most glorious reign, he shall go to Jerusalem, and shall lay down his Crown and Sceptre on the Mount of Olives."

Democracy versus Monarchy part 1

I have been asked why, I, once the conservative, should now be an utterly unrepentant Monarchist, who prays daily for the King of France in the person Of Louis XX to reclaim his throne and usher into existance a new awakening of the Spirit of the Catholicism in the world.

This is a hard question to answer, considering how I was brought up in the ideals of democracy being the best form of government ever devised. (sarcasm, dear sarcasm) This realization came to me slowly and over a great deal of time. Since my youth and (I hope I am not too old yet) I have seen the changes sweep over the country like a locust devouring everthing in their path in the name of misguided tolerance. Anything is OK as long as it doesn't hurt someone else. I have seen politians beat their breast and say "I work for the people" and "We need to get back to the peoples business." Just what is the people's business? " In another sense, today almost everyone is for democracy. It has become a euphemism for the best regime. Few governments in the past century have not wanted to call themselves “democracies” or “republics.” “People’s republics” are not uncommon. Most tyrants claimed the banner of democracy."

Yet are they really for THE people, I say no. It is because in a democracy the majority have the power to infuence the minority based on their ideals and moral foundation. Even in this government where the supposed checks and balances are intended to function to preserve rights and freedoms they have gone critically bad. For example, lets imagine that the congress has ruled that people with blue eyes are not worthy of life by a domcratic means. That would be sorry news to me and most of my grandchildren. Yet by a simple majority my rights and life would be in question. So I take it to court, and I found my way to the supreme court. ...And by a majorty vote they decided that the congress had been constitutionally correct. I could be killed.

Never happen you say. Hmmm, OK, in 1973 5 out of 9 Supreme Court judges found a right to abortion in the 4th amendment. 5 out of 9. And abortion now stands. Millions of unborn babies have perished. You see these judges saw "the people" as their final arbiter of right and wrong and moralty. We as Americans have relinquished our "authority" to 9 men and women. We had no right to do so. We will be the ones who are judged for this.

Truth is God is the supreme arbiter, no politian, no president, no judge would have any power where it not given them by God. They forget this on a daily basis, and believe that Gods Authority to govern first desends to the people and then up to the government. That is like God giving children authority to let parents to raise them. How abstract that is.

I realized that the authorty of a parent desends from God to me to be a father to my children. This is a microcasm of Gods plan. God reigns over humanity, HIS authority desends to the Pope, and King, and parent. We are responsible to GOD alone in this. When we rely on the governed to be in charge they invariably make bad decisions. In an effort to please everyone no one is pleased. It is impossible for politians to make a moral or just decision as long as they feel the need to pander to their constituancy.

Outrage in San Diego

The Family Research Council has a posting of a story of how the fire fighters in San Diego were forced to parade in the recent Gay Pride Parade by theire openly lesbian fire chief Tracy Jarman. Husbands and fathers made to submit to cat calls and obsenities by the onlooking crowd. These people risk their lives every day and to be subjected to such vulgarity is unimaginable.

This is the way the Angels were greeted in Sodom and Gamorah.

Evan Almighty

I saw Evan Almighty at the theater not too long ago. I thought it was better than Bruce Almighty which I did not car for as I thought it was blasphemous. God chooses Evan to build an arc. Never mind that God has said he would never destroy the earth with a flood again, it just makes a good plot. The film does have some very funny and profound moments in it. For example, god says "If you wan't to hear God Chuckle just tell Him your plans" and when you ask for something sometimes God gives you opportunities.

A smart film. Worth watching.

Much of this footage is from the French film, Danton, and Le Duc et l'Anglais.
Two excellent films which show that the French are not so on terms with the proto-communist revolution of 1789-93

Jhesu+Marie

Act of Settlement in Danger?

The Daily Telegraph of August 5 2007 reports on the marriage engagement of Peter Phillips, grandson of the Queen and (OMG) Autmn Kelly, (a Catholic! and worse a Canadian). The Act of Settlement written into English Law in 1701 forbids an heir to the throne from marrying or becoming a Catholic. (Guy Faux is just rolling in laughter)

Post Traumatic Shock Disorder

I found this interesting article on my friend Mary Eileen's blog. Mary Eileen has written a marvelous novel about Madam Royale, the last and only survivor of the French Royal family and daughter of their Majesties, King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette. She relates an excellent and intriging idea about Madame Royale. Suffering from PSTD, I can only say that, it is encouraging to know I have not been alone. I get 4 out of the top 5 symtoms, 5 out of 5 if you count not sleeping well as a symtom.
